Here is the success story of Organic farming.Started in a small farm now it has farms in Bangalore, Andhra and Tamilnadu. This is the story of Lumiere Organic
Food is our basic need, but in this era of growing technology, industrialization and degradation of the environment the quality of food and the sources of food have lost its genuinity. Be it vegetables or fruits, we don’t know which is naturally grown and which is chemically treated.
Conventional Agriculture has contaminated the yield and even the soil has lost its real texture and advantage. This is really need of the hour, we must go back to our roots and change our thinking and lifestyle as well and go along with the nature without harming it. One such easy way is Organic Farming.
This was an experience of mine where I visited this organization and understood the value of Organic Farming and how conventional farming has to be revamped. Yes, I had been to Lumiere an organization which is trying to educate people about Organic food, Organic farming and Organic Lifestyle.
Lumiere began its journey in the year 2002 in Kerala by Mr. Manjunath and Mr. Ambrose. Way back in 2002 these duos purchased 10 acre farm in Kanthaloore Munnar and converted into an organic farm. Initially they started growing products organically and sold it to the nearby communities, but they didn’t get enough profit for further developments. So they came with an Idea of Organic Restaurant and in 2006 they started one in Panampally Nagar . But still their vision “a seed to table organic” and sustainable agriculture was not completely accomplished.
So in 2009 they moved to Bangalore and started an organic restaurant and one organic store with wide range of organic products. Now they have 3-4 farms. One mainly in Thali , one in Marthahalli , Coconut and poultry farms in Tamil Nadu. They grow different varieties of vegetables and fruits organically, it includes apples ,carrots,broccoli ,lettuce etc.

Why Organic Agriculture?
Normally the plants require their food in ionised form and it is done with the help of microbes in the soil. But eventually many nutrients in the soil are lost at various stages in conventional farming . So in organic farming the carbon is provided as supplements in the form of hay, dry or left over plants and leaves,by this microbes are not harmed and even water retention is maintained.
In the farms of Lumiere, natural composting is done using these left over plants,hay,cow dung and other natural waste which gives lots of nutrition for the growth of plants. They also try natural methods like Bio fertilizers and bio pest control methods like Yard manure,Jeevamrutha, Compost and all new organic techniques for new crop varieties .They have tried their best to blend traditional agriculture with Modern organic farming by using organic alternatives instead of chemical fertilizers.

These methods has really helped this organization for a long term benefit. The company has a brand identity of its own now, “Lumiere-A seed to table organic”. The company has grown quite efficient with four stores in Marthahalli, White Field, Sarjapur and Kormangala respectively . There is even an organic bakery and an online shopping portal for Bangalore community to shop organic products .
“Dreams can be fulfilled if u have the courage to pursue it” and this organisation has proved it. .Thinking of something like this is only great but executing in such a wonderful manner is commendable. Its high time we create awareness about Organic Farming so that we can give something to our future generation.
