This house in Bangalore is completely powered by Solar, produces 80 units in a day

At the times when need for alternative energy source is been debated, here is a man who has designed a green building and has set model for others to follow.

At the times when need for alternative energy source is been debated, here is a man who has designed a green building and has set model for others to follow..

Dinesh Pagaria has set a new example in harnessing solar energy right from the construction work of his house in Jayanagar, Bangalore. Dinesh has not availed electricity from the government instead has completely relied on Solar energy.

A Green Enthusiast

Dinesh who is a green Enthusiast wanted to build an Eco-friendly house.  He put forth his ideas before his architects and engineers. To begin with, engineers commissioned a small 4Kw plant by installing solar panels on the roof top of worker’s shed at the construction site (60x80 plot).  Later engineers increased the capacityof this plant by giving it a proper shape so that even in future there should be no necessary to avail power from government.

No worries during rain or dull weather

The main drawback of solar is the production of energy during rainy days. To overcome this challenge engineers imported thin film solar panels based on CIS cell from Japan.
Unlike conventional PV solar panels which ranges from Rs 5000- Rs 6000, this CIS Solar panels cost Rs 7000. The main advantage of this CIS Solar panels is , while PV panels require sunrays to fall on them , these this film panels starts generating  power even  with the break of dawn just by using small luminous flux.

Cost and ROI

Total of 133 panels on the roof top with each generating about 150 watts is installed. The cost of entire 20 KW solar setup is approximately 36 lakhs which includes  panels, fabricated steel structure, inverters, batteries and electrical accessories . These 133 panels collectively generate 80 unit of power during the day.

The Interesting part is, the inverters are connected to two battery sets with a capacity of 1,000  each. These are absolutely maintenance free batteries and have a lifespan of 10years-15years depending upon the usage. The system is equipped with a wireless technology and linked to a Wi-Fi modem so that the owner can control the generation or consumption of energy from any part of the world.

Calculation of consumption considering the centralized air conditioner, refrigerator, washing machine, bore well(5 Hp motor) and other appliances,  optimum  consumption would be around 18 units to 20 units per day as against the total generation of 80 units per day. In the future too, the house will not require any power supply from the Government. While a part of investment to the tune of Rs 5 to 8 lakh has already been snap backed, in coming days, with full utilization of power, the entire investment can be recovered with power savings.
